5 Things that happened to me as a result of starting a Primal lifestyle.
It’s been 16 days since I started my 30 days of Primal/Paleo lifestyle. And I’m like a new woman….not that I was like an old woman before, but Wow. Just Wow. This post started as a 5 things….but it turned into 6.
1. I am less hungry. Seriously less hungry. I used to feel ravenously hungry if I was late for a meal. Now I find that I can go even an hour beyond my usual meal time and not mind a bit. I’ll notice that I’m hungry, but it’s not distracting. Before, if I got too hungry I would get to the point of being “hangry” do you know what I mean — hungry+angry= hangry!
2. I am sleeping better. These days I’m ready to sleep at sleep time and awake before my alarm goes off feeling well-rested.
3. I have more energy. It’s like my muscles are ready to go at any moment. I’ve got a spring in my step and I bound up the stairs instead of plodding.
4. I am thinking more clearly. There were times before when I would feel clouded or dazy, but since going Primal, I’m able to think keenly and focus with a longer attention span.
5. I don’t crave sugar. Seriously, this has to be the best side effect. I have always joked that I don’t have a sweet tooth I have a whole mouth full! Since cutting refined sugar and carbohydrates out of my diet I don’t even want sweets.
6. I have lost weight! And of course, everyone wants to know how much. Well I’ve lost 7 pounds. That’s 5% of my body weight in 16 days. Not too shabby!

Hi Lisa!
I came to your blog through the paleohacks website!
I would have to agree with you that I am experiencing the exact same things as you are (more energy, no hunger etc)…except the weight loss. I’ve gone paleo for about nearly 3 weeks now (with some cheat meals…maybe 5?). But I haven’t seen the weight loss happening.
Not too sure if its the shorter sleeping hours because of school and having to study at night hence not getting the prescribed minimum of 7 hours.
Would you care to share what your eating habits have been like? I’m really still trying to get used to the eating full fat foods, hence i don’t eat THAT much fat….not even bacon.
Any tips?
For the first few days I ate like crazy, lots of meat, cheese and vegetables. This was because I was dying for some carbs, lol! Then I eased off as my craving diminished. Most days look like this for me:
Breakfast: either a BIG smoothie with unsweetened almond milk, berries and protein (a raw egg or protein powder -If I opt for protein powder I’ll have some nuts since fat fills me up. 1 Egg yolk seems to have enough fat to fill me.) OR an omelette with lots of veg inside and some cheese.
Snack: Apple with Almond Butter and a square or 85% dark chocolate.
Lunch: stirfry or salad (1/3 meat 2/3 veg.) or an omelette if I didn’t have one for breakfast.
Supper: the opposite of lunch, or the same thing again if I’m lazy. Another square of chocolate and a cup of black coffee or tea to cap it off.
Most meals end up looking a lot the same, don’t they?
Sometimes I have 2 snacks sometimes none. I drink a fair bit of clear tea and coffee. I also have made some yummy brownies with yams in them, snacked on 1/2 the pan that day….;)
I am careful to eat fruit that is low in sugar, easy on the melons and pineapple. Some apples and pears, but mostly berries. No dried fruit at all. I eat about 3 squares of dark chocolate a day.
Hope that helps!
Lisa
I’ve bought the primal book and gave been carb and sugar free for slightly over two weeks now. I do feel better, crave less and only eat twice a day now. Problem is I’m 5 feet tall and thick in my waist and have seen very little improvement there so far. It’s discouraging, I’m 138 lbs and desperatly want to lose 10 at least!! I am a walker and I do the weights at the gym once or twice a week for at least 1.5 hours. Is there any other suggestion you could give me to move things along at a faster rate! thanks…frustrated in Cape Breton!!
Hi Barbara,
Sorry to take so long to reply! I’ve been away for a few days. Sounds like you’re doing things right. I wonder if there are any hidden carbs in the foods/beverages you are consuming….
Some people take a little longer to see results. Have you seen any more weight loss since your original post?
Mark Sisson would advocate getting plenty of sunshine and sleep. Maybe those things would help as well.
Good luck to you!
