How do you blog?  I’ve recently had a question from a reader regarding how to start a blog.  Rather than answer the question privately, I thought I’d post a blog entry about it.

When I got started blogging I knew nothing about blogging.  Nothing!  So, I had to do a fair amount of research and it was a learning curve for sure!

1.  First thing you should do is sign up for a hosting package.  I researched several hosting sites and the one that came up on top was HostGator.  It has tons of services included like a website builder, SEO tools, and it’s compatible with WordPress.org.  When you sign up for HostGator you can also choose and register a domain name.  A domain name is the .com name that you use for your blog.  ThisBlogIsForWomen.com for example.

HostGator has an online chat assistance, they helped me a lot when I was getting things started!  You can commit for only a month if you like!  Nothing to lose!

2.  Second thing you you need to do is install wordpress.org.    WordPress is free and it’s a simple install.

Once you’ve installed wordpress, you can choose a theme “background” and start posting!

The great thing about wordpress is that it is customizable, you can add widgets if you want to.  Don’t make the mistake of thinking that wordpress.com is the same as wordpress.org.  It’s not.

They are both free, but the .com has many limitations, and I recommend going with .org right away so you don’t have to try to learn both of them, like I did.

That’s it!  Just 2 steps to get you started on your path to blogging!    Blogging is a great hobby and the monthly costs of  a blog is than a coffee date!
